About Us

Yvette McIntire

Burned out from living life for others, Yvette, a full-time stay-at-home mom and over-active community volunteer, had something to prove to herself.

I was great at keeping appointments and meeting deadlines for others, but found it very easy to put off commitments to myself. My approach to wellness was one-sided and only included the physical aspects of nutrition and exercise. While I believe these are important, this approach turned me into a three-legged chair—a bit off balance. The result? I blew up my hormonal balance and struggled through a bout of depression coupled with panic attacks. I wound up exhausted and lost.

Slowly, drawing upon my years of personal study of self-improvement, my certification training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, and my own research of natural healing, I found a balanced approach to health and wellness that included not only the physical, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual. My first goal, as I rebuilt my health, was to challenge myself to keep a commitment to ME, as proof that I could trust myself not to ignore my own health and well-being ever again.

I'd always toyed with the idea of training for a marathon, but truly didn't believe it was possible. Even though I'd been a wellness junkie for years (teaching exercise and nutrition classes and running in numerous races of various distances), I'd never undertaken something that required the long-term commitment and focus of a marathon. Completing the Walt Disney World Marathon, which I did as a fund-raiser for Tourette Syndrome,* was the most amazing spiritual, mental and physical challenge of my life. As a Martha Beck Certified Life Coach and a holistic nutrition counselor, I can help you cross the finish line, too. I will teach you a balanced approach to wellness that begins with changing the way you think.

*My son has Tourette Syndrome. Doing the race as a fundraiser allowed me to do something to help him and others with this neurological disorder and satisfy my volunteer spirit. You can take the girl out of the volunteer organization, but you can't take the volunteer heart out of the girl!

While working out regularly for the past 30 years, racing never entered my mind… until 2008. Exercising was something I did for the health of it, only in my basement, and rarely outdoors. It wasn’t something I loved, but I did love how working out kept my body toned.

Then something changed in August 2008 when I discovered that a big local sprint triathlon was going to take place on September 5, 2009 -- my 50th birthday. My first thought was to sign up, since I knew this would be an amazing way to celebrate. But then came the fun-sucking second thought – But I can’t even swim a lap in a pool. I’ll never be able to swim a half-mile in a lake. And so began my journey!

Training was consumed with my thoughts of:
Why can’t I at least swim as fast as this 70-year-old next to me?
No way I can ride a bike with my shoes clipped into pedals!.
How can I possibly run 3 miles with this annoying sciatica pain?

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was actually letting some of these crazy thoughts hold me back. Talk about running in place! That was me -- swimming, biking and running almost every day, but the activity inside my head was preventing me from seeing any progress.

Right now I’m jumping up and down with excitement over MomsWhoRace because I know without a doubt that the main obstacle in reaching any finish line is how we THINK. I’ve learned from experience that when I can put my fear-based thoughts aside and focus on what I WANT to do (rather than the reasons I think it’s “sooo hard”), then everything shifts inside me.

I'm already planning for next year's triathlon and this time my goal is simple: train smart and have fun doing it. MomsWhoRace is part of this fun. I can't wait to help other women accomplish this same exhilarating goal!

Here are the fun facts about me:  I am a recovered Cheeto guzzler, coach potato, and excuse fondler.  I went from being an exercise hater, to learning how to put my body first, to running races. From 35 pounds overweight, to my naturally-fit weight. From thinking that women who worked out didn’t have anything better to do, to coaching hundreds of women how to put their health and bodies first. Let my 180-degree turnaround help light your path back to yourself. Use this site and racing information to set a goal for yourself and have fun with it.

I’m a Master Certified Weight Loss Coach with virtually no interest in how many calories you eat or how many sit ups you do. I am solely interested in finding the limiting thoughts that you think drive your patterns of behavior, and helping you get rid of them. There are a million diet programs that will tell you how to eat and how to move. I will teach you how to think. And from that place, you will find freedom that will not only feel lighter, but will create new patterns of behavior that will make you literally lighter in the process. If you want a diet, I am not your woman. If you want a personal revolution, JOIN ME.

I live in the Midwest with my two awesome kids, ages 11 and 9, and one very patient husband.  We lovingly refer to our family as the Hyatt Riot, which also includes two beagles, one cat, two ferrets and one hamster. Life is not dull.
